A content mod for Battlefield 2
Ukraine War Mod is a free mod for Battlefield 2, the popular first-person shooter that was originally released in 2005. The game allows players to do battle in a modern theatre of war. The base game had the player fighting a fictional war between the United States and China, but this mod changed that to Ukraine and Russia.
The mod is essentially an aesthetic mod, with many of the changes being simple reskins of existing game content. To that end, players of the original game are unlikely to notice anything new about the gameplay, only the way the soldiers look.
Battle Russia
Using Ukraine War Mod, Battlefield 2 players can act out the 2022 invasion of Ukraine by Russia. The mod allows the player to take on the role of Ukrainian troops in a variety of locations, with seven different maps to do battle in. Players have commented that many of these maps are reused Call of Duty maps.
Reskinned content
The content added to the game seems to be mostly existing content that has been reskinned. For example, the Ukrainian army appears to reuse the same assets that made up the US army in the base game. And, as mentioned above, some of the maps used in the game are from Call of Duty.
Limited appeal
For Battlefield 2 players looking to act out the Russian invasion of Ukraine, this mod provides a way to do that. It does not make any substantial changes to the game, however, so it is unlikely to be appealing to players who are not interested in that particular conflict.
